What’s in a Name: Name Jewelry

Jewelry with names is both a jewelry classic and one of the trendiest choices today. A large part of this modern upswing in popularity is due to the hip hop culture where large name jewelry items have become the defining fashion in bling. While much of the current fashion is large, bling-style pieces, name jewelry can range from delicate and subtle to big and bold. But name jewelry is also very popular as traditional mothers jewelry.

Name rings and name necklaces are by far the most popular items with online stores and retailers. The necklaces are not typically necklace and pendant sets, but rather the name is directly attached or part of the actual chain of the necklace. These solid looking and highly flashy necklaces can be long or short, with longer styles more commonly worn by men and short, closer to the neck lengths popular with women. The gamut of precious metals can be chosen for these pieces, depending on personal preference and budget. Gems, particularly diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds are also used on the chains and necklaces, some simulated or synthetic but also some using real gemstones.

The rings that are popular include two and three finger rings that are wide enough to easily display the whole name or a particular slogan or phrase. Ensuring a good fit for these mulitple finger rings is crucial for comfort. Many people that are looking for these types of rings have them custom made and fitted, providing just the right match for their fashion taste. Rings, like the necklaces, can be in virtually any metal or combination plus they often have the diamonds and other precious and semi-precious stones.

In some cases the heavier hip hop style fashion looks terrific as a monogram or initial type of ring or necklace. These tend to be bulkier in style than traditional monogram rings and often include additional detailing around the initials. White metals such as silver, white gold, palladium and platinum tend to be most popular with yellow gold also in high demand. These initial rings or name rings are worn by both men and women, with some styles and types equally suitable for either gender. Men’s rings typically are heavier and thicker than the rings worn by women, however with larger often seen as better this is not always the case.
